April 24 is the date when the gates of the Kedarnath temple will be unlocked this year for devotees to pay reverence. Like every year, the opening date was decided on Shivratri at Ukhimath temple. Further, the gates of Badrinath will be opened on 26th of the same month
The state government has put in extra and special efforts to revive the Kedarnath temple area which had gone through severe damage during the Mid-June 2013 floods.
It is being reported that the state government will form a 40-member team of officials hailing from the disaster management department, PWD, forest department, revenue department and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Following the guidelines of chief minister Harish Rawat, the team will carry out on-site survey of roads en route to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamnotri and Gangotri in the coming weeks.
The official dates of the opening Gangotri and Yamunotri portals have not been announced yet but resources believe that they will open on April 23 and 24 respectively.
According to resources, Chief Minister Harish Rawat will be visiting the yatra route of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri to ensure that all the arrangements are in place. For this, he has also instructed all the officials and personnel strictly.
