The sacred travel to Kedarnath and Badrinath temples opened for devotees on 5th October 2013, almost after a gap of four months after horrendous calamity following flash floods and downpours led to the stop of the most famous Char Dham Yatra of Uttarakhand. According to the registration process at Guptakashi, 43 people set out for Kedarnath Yatra on the very first day that is Saturday, of which 12 devotees stayed in Bhimbali and 31 arrived at Kedarnath.
To evade the force on the recently constructed infrastructure in the region, no more than 100 pilgrims are permitted to embark on Kedarnath Yatra daily after registration being made at Guptakashi stated by Mr. Chauhan. The reason for registering the details of each and every devotee is to maintain a record in which information of number of devotees will be there which includes name and mobile number.
It has been said by the officials that after the disaster of June that had broken the trek leading to Kedarnath Temple has been extended to 25 km from 14 km trek. The Yatra will start from Sonprayag as there is no road beyond it. While arrangements for lodging and food have been made for devotees at Bhimali and Linchauli, medical facilities will also be posted enroute to the temples- “Badrinath” and “Kedarnath” to tender their services to the devotees. In addition to these, chopper service is also available from Dehradun to Kedaranth for all those who want to make their journey hassle free.
Officials said that the journey will be performed in a controlled way and only 100 pilgrims a day will be allowed to Kedarnath temple. Before starting the Yatra, all the devotees have to go through a medical test.
The doors to these main pilgrimage centers will remain closed from December onwards. Those who couldn’t able to embark on the revered journey to the two main holy centers (Kedarnath-Badrinath) of Uttarakhand owing to horrific natural disaster can plan it now.
