The state transport corporation of Uttarakhand, UTC (Uttarakhand Transport Corporation) has planned to induct five new Volvo buses before the commencement of Chardham Yatra on April 21, 2015. In order to offer comfortable journey to the pilgrims during the Chardham Yatra, these new buses are being operated.
According to reports, five new Volvo buses shall join the UTC fleet to help make the commutation become better in the state during the annual Chardham Yatra. The new buses are expected to be inducted in the UTC fleet in the first week of April, almost two weeks before the yearly pilgrimage begins. As per, Deepak Jain, General Manager (operations), UTC, the five new buses will be deployed on selected routes from Delhi i.e Delhi-Rishikesh, Delhi-Haridwar and Delhi-Dehradun routes.
Apart from including new Volvo buses, UTC has also decided to reserve 50 ordinary buses for Char Dham Yatra. These buses will be deployed if the demand inflates during the time of yatra. As per another report, UTC is also in the process of purchasing 590 new ordinary buses, which will replace the old ones in the coming six months. The cost of these new ordinary buses is estimated to be about 100 crore.
