Reckoned as one of the most sacred pilgrimages in the Hindu religion, the Char Dham Yatra holds a uniquely significant place in the hearts of devotees. Comprising Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath, the Char Dham Yatra begins in the months of April/May and remains open for only half the year. However, the exact dates are confirmed before the holy day of Akshaya Tritiya by the Kedar-Badri Mandir Samiti. Akshaya Tritiya is a highly sacred and auspicious day in the Hindu calendar, also known as Akha Teej, believed to bring good fortune.
As for the Char Dham Yatra dates for 2026, the holy gates of two of the four temples—Yamunotri and Gangotri—will open on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya (19 April 2026) for pilgrims.
Just a few days later, the Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham shrines will also reopen for devotees. In 2026, it is expected that the Kedarnath Temple will reopen on 22 April and Badrinath on 24 April. Worshippers bid farewell to Badrinath Dham on the auspicious day of Vijay Dashami, followed by the closing of Gangotri Dham on Diwali, and Kedarnath and Yamunotri Dhams simultaneously on Yama Dwitiya/Bhai Dooj.
Since the Char Dham Yatra proceeds in a clockwise direction, the sacred journey begins at Yamunotri. Thereafter, passing through Gangotri and Kedarnath, the pilgrimage concludes at Badrinath.
The Chardham Yatra 2025 ushers in a transformative experience for pilgrims with the introduction of helicopter services to Badrinath and Kedarnath from Jolly Grant Airport.
