The gorgeous silhouette of Uttarakhand is accredited not only for its Himalayan Range but its architecturally rich Hindu Temples. The state is home to several Hindu pilgrimage sites of which some are situated atop lofty peaks; some are hidden in the remote Himalayas and can only be reached by trekking; and well some are easily accessible make the top places to visit. In Uttarakhand, foothills of the Himalayas are home to sacred Hindu destinations as well as sightseeing places of Haridwar and Rishikesh and the Greater Himalayas are home to Kedarnath, Badrinath and several other best places to visit for Hindu pilgrimage.
Amongst the most popular Hindu temples in Uttarakhand are the Shiva Temple of Kedarnath, Vishnu Temple of Badrinath, shrine of Goddess Ganga, Gangotri, and that of Goddess Yamuna, Yamunotri which together form the popular Hindu pilgrimage (yatra) and tourism places, Chhota Chardham. Uttarakhand also boasts the highest Shiva Temple, Tungnath that sits at a height of 3680 m. Not only this, the state is home to four more important Lord Shiva pilgrimage destinations – Kedarnath, Madhyamaheshwar, Rudranath, and Kalpeshwar which along with Tungnath create another holy yatra in Uttarakhand, Panch Kedar. Like Panch Kedar, there’s Panch Prayag where sacred temples are situated at the five confluences of holy rivers. The holy city of Haridwar is home to numerous temples. In the Kumaon Region of the state, the ancient Jageshwar Temple and the temples of Nanda Devi make for some important Hindu worship places.
